LIFE

As a child I sat in awe

of everything I ever saw.

I’d sit and dream of what life would be like

never really knowing

what life would really be like.

Life.

Beautiful yet cruel.

Exhilarating yet unfair.

Tremendous yet toxic.

Brilliant yet a burden.

Who ever thought

Life could be so uncertain.

“I have a dream”

One of the first set of words

a young girl would read.

Tears filled her eyes

as she started to cry

Not knowing one day

she would watch a man die

Because of the colour of his skin.

"I can’t breathe, sir. I can’t breathe."

That girl was me.

Wishing I could jump through the TV

and lunge at the knee

of a man who hates us all so.

Light, white, brown, black and blue,

Racial injustice

This is nothing new.

Something like this

Makes us all think,

Is this what a young me,

Imagined life would be?

So unjust, unfair,

driven by greed, hate & fear.

Sitting with a tear

That could one day fill an ocean.

"I can’t breath, Sir. I can’t breath".
